Bruce Burtch Photography

The Community Media Center of Marin presents "Bruce Burtch Photography," a virtual photo gallery on exhibit through June 30.

"Over the past nearly 50 years, a high-quality Canon camera was never far from my side," says Burtch, who has been called the "Father of Cause Marketing" and currently serves as executive director/producer, pro bono, of Social Impact Productions, a nonprofit organization focused on producing educational and socially impactful communications.

"Whether splattered with sand from climbing a dune in Death Valley, dust-covered from a dry Native American pow wow, or the tragedy of dropping my best camera into the ocean (a total loss), this wonderful hobby has allowed me to find miraculous beauty in far-off places and my own backyard.  The following is but a sample of what my eyes have witnessed and my camera has captured."

Carol Jacobsen's Gallery Reception "Women Of Color And Accomplishment" on Thursday, August 31st @ 6:00 PM!

On Thursday, August 31, at 6;00 PM, there will be the closing reception for the 'Doing the Right Thing' art exhibit by Carol Jacobsen. At 7:00 PM, Carol will give an artist talk: From Art Therapy to Social Justice Art.

'Doing the Right Thing' showcases 19 of the 100 portraits in the 'Women of Color and Accomplishment' series. This series was inspired by the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent protests. In processing her first response of anger and frustration at the racism still evident in this country, Carol chose to focus her energy on making a visual reminder of the power of individuals to make a difference. She chose portraiture to honor the extraordinary African American women who have overcome obstacles of race and gender to achieve their dreams. Most of these women have been ignored by history books. These portraits were made to help people see beyond skin color to instead see the character of the person.

Event: “Women of Color and Accomplishment” Closing Reception
Room: The Georgia Anwell Gallery
Location: Community Media Center of Marin
Address: 819 A Street, San Rafael, CA 94901
Date: Thursday, August 31st
Time: 6:00 - 8:00 PM

Register your team to participate in the first ever MARIN SCHOOL OF THE ARTS FILM CHALLENGE!

The MSA Film Challenge is based on Cinemasports, the global phenomenon during which teams have 10 hours to complete a movie with a list of ingredients. Finished movies screen the 11th hour, that very night. For Example, can different teams complete a short movie during daylight hours that includes an English teacher, a tattoo, and a lost lover?

The MSA Film Challenge will begin at 9am at the Novato High School Performing Arts Building, where teams will receive the list of ingredients for their films. The teams then set off to write a script, shoot, and edit their film in time for the 7pm screening time.
Registration is free and teams may be comprised of as many students as they desire. Individuals may also register and be assigned to a team the day of the event.
